Gamers out there looking to inject a bit of retro feels into their life might be pleased to learn that some of SEGA’s most-popular and world-renown classics, have this month become available to download on mobile …
Marking the first time in history that titles such as Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon and Phantasy Star II have been reengineered for play on touchscreen, simultaneously also being made available for download on iOS and Android – the collection of games surprisingly arrive carrying a not-so-expected zero-down initial price tag, with SEGA’s decision to instead intersect player gameplay with third-party ads certainly going to be an interesting one to watch.
Of course, there’s an option to remove those could-become-real-frustrating-real-quick pop-ups with an equally speedy in-app purchase. In fact, they can be gone … for just £1.99.
Tempting, right? … It’s clear that this is somewhat of a test for SEGA as to whether the ad-supported model will work for future planned releases, or if it’ll have to switch back to using the normal ‘one-off’ upfront pricing model.
That experiment started out by the firm making several of its iconic titles from the Genesis console era available to download on both the App Store and Google Play – at the end of last week, (including the original and acclaimed Sonic the Hedgehog, and spin-off: Sonic Dash), with the company continuing to promise “official emulations” and ports of classic games that “pan all Sega console eras,” as the months and years progress.
In the meantime you can keep up with all the latest titles from the ‘SEGA Forever’ era which have since been added to SEGA’s special mobile collection, by hitting up the link below … Enjoy!
