Nintendo’s Cult Strategy RPG ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’ Hits App Store

Following the blockbuster debut of the company’s highly-prized Mario franchise on Apple’s mobile platform in December, Nintendo’s cult strategy series Fire Emblem Heroes is this week seeing its official release on iOS.

The popular tactical RPG series was originally created by renown Japanese game designer, Shouzou Kaga -in partnership with developer Intelligent Systems– and was first produced for the Family Computer Disk System (otherwise known as the Famicom).

The game would eventually see its wider release on Nintendo’s own platform in 2003 – fuelled by growing popularity of two specific characters Marth and Roy by gamers outside of Japan and would later be famed for its introduction of the ‘permanent death’ gameplay mechanic, which saw characters permanently die in battle removing them once defeated.

While the above sounds like an all-too-common mechanic found and deployed in gaming titles of all shapes and sizes – today, back then the mechanic was considered pretty revolutionary.

In terms of what you can expect from the spin-off mobile release, Fire Emblem Heroes; Nintendo says that the game’s fight battles have been fully customized for touch screens and on-the-go gameplay.

Summon characters from across the Fire Emblem universe. Develop your Heroes’ skills, and take them to new heights. This is your adventure — a Fire Emblem that’s like nothing you’ve seen before!

Playing as a summoner with the special ability to call upon legendary heroes from different Fire Emblem worlds, in order to save the Kingdom of Askr from total destruction you’ll want to join the ‘Order of Heroes,’ where, Nintendo says, you’ll face a never-ending challenge.

“The game features numerous Hero characters from the Fire Emblem series and a few brand-new Heroes created by artist Yusuke Kozaki, known for his work on Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates,” the studio highlights.

“Some Heroes will fight at your side as allies, while others may stand in your way as fierce enemies to be defeated and added to your army,” it adds.

Ready to start your journey?Fire Emblem Heroes is a FREE download from the App Store. The game also contains a variety of in-app purchase items that will, together, see players able to advance overall play.
