Briefly managing to displace popular block-building adventure, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, to assume the #1 spot on Apple’s U.S Paid iOS Chart, indie offering Goblin Sword claims to mix both a “retro”-inspired action platformer with “light rpg elements” – to create the ultimate retro platformer experience.
An army of monsters led by an evil wizard have invaded your hometown. Slay as many monsters as you can, collect loot, avoid dangerous traps and defeat menacing bosses, before facing the evil wizard himself.
Featuring a “pixel-perfect” art-style to go along with its claims of providing retro platformer goodness, Goblin Sword – released on Thursday – features a total of 48 levels and challenges players to defeat a total of 8 bosses, using an arsenal of 20 unique weapons – and special attacks, to help them on their way.
Half price for a limited time at just $0.99 – the game features no in-app purchases and no ads, two factors that have almost certainly helped in the platformer’s recent rise to the top of the U.S Paid iOS Chart.
Well, that – and Goblin Sword‘s epic retro gameplay.
